To Give Life a Shape: Poems Inspired by the Santa Barbara Museum of Art features poems by 40 central coast poets writing in response to works in the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s permanent collection.
To Give Life a Shape is the third Shoreline Voices Project anthology published by Gunpowder Press and is edited by David Starkey and Chryss Yost. SBMA Educational Director (and lifelong friend of poetry) Patsy Hicks says:
We hope this book will further inspire students, teachers, writers and artists to create, as the poet Edward Hirsch has suggested, their own “Imaginative acts of attention”; to look closely and even more closely at art and the world, and out of that observation create something new, a new form for remembering, representing, renaming experience; to revel in the interplay between image and word; in short, to mean and to be.
Poets include Ron Alexander, Alison Bailey, Rick Benjamin, Gudrun Bortman, Laure-Anne Bosselaar, Steve Braff, Mary Brown, Susan Chiavelli, John Chilcott, Natalie D-Napoleon, Fran Davis, Pamela Davis, Carol DeCanio, John Elliot, Kimbrough Ernest, Tessa Flanagan, Mary Freericks, Luci Janssen, Gabriella Josephine Klein, Perie Longo, Glenna Luschei, Kathee Miller, Delia Moon, Enid Osborn, Christina Pages, Melinda Palacio,Christine Penko, Peg Quinn, RBS, John Ridland, Sojourner Rolle, Linda Saccoccio, Susan Shields, David Starkey, Roslyn Strohl, Patti Sullivan, Kevin Patrick Sullivan, Daniel Thomas, Emma Trelles, Paul J.
